This add-in allows a user to find and highlight ways to improve the writing using Microsoft Word. The application will show the overused and complex words report. It can also check the grammar and usage based on a house style. The type of report can be selected so that the program will work effectively - it can be business, academic, general, etc.

The Internet is required for the application to work. The speed of checking is not that good. It also slows down the MS Word application if a large file is opened for the analysis.

It's good when it works, but unfortunately, it jams Word 2010 to the point of being worthless, and the people at ProWritingAid don't respond. It worked for two days and then fell apart. If the company can fix it, then I'll change my one-star rating, but until then one is all they get.

The support team responded and one-star is now back to five-star.

This comment was useful to me since I know that the free version does not provide a lot of benefit.

This add-on sure found many that other add-on I've tried wouldn't. (I tried Ginger and Grammarly) and it provides suggestions that are very helpful for a person that speaks English as second language. I use this software for my academic writings and I found it handy.
It is, however, slow when it runs the check, and this would be especially significant if your PC is older. They also have a 14-day free trial for premium (I think the free version doesn't really do anything although it would run the check and let you know the # of issues... so, well... the free version is pretty useless). I'm currently using the trial now, and am considering to pay for the service.
